Frequently Asked Questions

How can i prepare for my initial visit?

Please share your recent blood test results (from the last 3-6 months) with me by emailing photos of the print outs to sandra@sandraishkanes.co.uk.

It is also important to know all medications and supplements that you are taking. Please have these handy during your visit so that I can evaluate them accurately and thoroughly.

Do you see clients outside of the Dolphin House Clinic in Brighton?

Yes I do. Fitting in self care is a challenge. Telemedicine is a modern day solution that makes getting good care more convenient. No waiting at the clinic and less time away from work and family.

My practice was built to facilitate virtual consultations, and connecting with clients remotely is easy. There’s no need for fancy software on your end, as long as you're comfortable with using the internet. Functional medicine lab kits and supplements can be shipped directly to your house.

Ideally I like to have the first consultation in person, but this is not absolutely necessary. Established clients routinely follow up by phone or secure video.

What is functional medicine?

Functional Medicine is an individualised, client-centered, science-based approach that empowers clients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. Read more here.

What are your fees?

Please see details here. These fees do not include lab tests and interpretation fees.

What labs do you order?

I request standard blood tests via your GP. I also order specialised functional laboratory testing through GI Map, Doctor's Data, Great Plains, Genova, DUTCH, CYREX, Nutrition Genome and others. This includes but is not limited to comprehensive stool testing, urine organic acids, nutrient levels, food sensitivity, complete hormones, cortisol (adrenal), heavy metals, genetics, mycotoxins and environmental chemicals.

How much do labs cost?

Lab costs will be discussed with you during your visit, as they will require an investment on your part. Most clients spend an average of £55 - £450 in advanced lab testing at their initial visit.

What is your cancellation policy?

When you call and schedule an appointment, time is reserved especially for you and no one else, and cancellations are significant interruptions to the clinic. Thus, a minimum of 7 days notice is required for cancellations of new client visits and 3 days notice for existing clients. There will be a 100% office visit charge for “no-shows” or late cancellations.

Can you be my primary care provider?

I specialise in functional medicine and my practice does not allow me to be available at the level of acuity necessary for a primary care practice. I am your functional medicine consultant, and require that you maintain your primary care doctor (a GP) for routine screening exams such as pap smears, colonoscopies, prostate exams, etc. and for urgent situations requiring immediate care or hospitalisation. I am happy to work collaboratively with your GP and/or specialists and ask that you continue that relationship.
